Higher Education Emergency Relief Funding for Students
CARES ACT (HEERF I)
Tiffin University has signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and received $988,605 from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act to be used to immediately assist current students experiencing financial hardships caused by the disruption of education due to COVID-19. A student only needed to fill out the application and the Tiffin University team worked with each student to identify all options available to assist them. The funding was used for immediate needs, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare and childcare. The application is now closed. To be eligible for the federal relief dollars, a student needed to be a current (March 13, 2020) undergraduate or graduate student, who is eligible to receive federal financial aid (FAFSA) and who were taking seated classes at the start of the spring 2020 semester. The U.S. Department of Education does not allow these funds to be used for international students, undocumented students, non-matriculated students or students enrolled in distance-only degree programs. Emergency relief funding will be awarded in the form of a grant which does not need to be repaid.
As of October 2, 2020, Tiffin University has distributed all of the $988,605 of the CARES Act Funds to 631 students. Award amounts ranged from $450 – $5500. There were approximately 1,200 eligible students. This is the final report information for the student portion.
CRRSA ACT (HEERF II)
Tiffin University has signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and received $988,605 from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act, 2021 to use to immediately to assist students experiencing exceptional need caused by the disruption of education due to COVID-19. A student only needed to fill out the application and the Tiffin University team worked with each student to identify all options available to assist them. The funding was used for immediate needs, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare and childcare. To be eligible for the federal relief dollars, a student must be enrolled anytime from March 13, 2020 through the end of the spring 2021 semester. The student can be a graduate or undergraduate student, studying on-campus or online. The U.S Department of Education does not allow these HEERF II funds to be used for international students and undocumented students. The HEERF II funds will be awarded in the form of a grant which does not need to repaid. Students had to apply for the grant, which is now closed.
As of May 2021, Tiffin University has distributed all of the $988,605 of the CRRSA Act Funds to 587 students. Award amounts ranged from $1000-$6000. There were approximately 2,800 eligible students. This is the final report information for the student portion.
ARP (HEERF III)
Tiffin University has signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and received $2,925,010 from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act, 2021 to use to immediately to assist students experiencing exceptional need caused by the disruption of education due to COVID-19. A student only needed to fill out the application and the Tiffin University team worked with each student to identify all options available to assist them. The funding was used for immediate needs, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare and childcare. To be eligible for the federal relief dollars, a student must be enrolled anytime from March 13, 2020 through the Fall 2021 semester. Domestic or international graduate or undergraduate students, studying on-campus or online are eligible. The HEERF III funds will be awarded in the form of a grant which does not need to repaid. Students had to apply for the grant, which is now closed.
As of October 2021, Tiffin University has distributed all of the $2,925,010 of the ARP Act Funds to 1043 students. Award amounts ranged from $1500-$5100. There were approximately 2,933 eligible students. This is the final report information for the student portion.
